Good places to hike/camp in New Jersey?
I want to go camping/hiking with a friend or two. The ideal place would be a moderately difficult mountain or mountainous trail within two hours of Bergen County. We have little interest in sleeping at a campsite. If it is permitted, we would like to find a small clearing to set up a single tent, not using a pre-made campground. So, are there any places within that radius that fit the description, or are at least similar to it. We are all pretty athletic, and will be traveling lightly, sleeping two nights.
Area around High Point State Park is really nice – you can find your own sites there. Also – check out some places along the Appalachian Trail that you can access.
