black ghost knife fish grow to 20 inches long. they are huge. Lovely fish but make sure you have a 7 or 8 foot tank to move him into as he grows

Equetus lanceolatus Jack-knife $79.99 The Jack Knife Fish, Equetus lanceolatus , is a very unique looking fish. They have an elongated dorsal fin. The Jackknife has a black line that runs vertically down their snout which fades as the fish matures. A black band runs vertically through both eyes, followed by two more black bars, one running through the pelvic fins and one beginning at the tip of the dorsal fin and extending to the tip of the caudal fin. They require large areas to swim and need caves or caverns in which to hide if they feel threatened. The natural diet of Jackknifes is invertebrates and small fish if they can catch them. That being the case they should be housed in fish only aquariums with fish large enough not to fit into their mouth. When first introduced into the aquarium they may need to be enticed with live food such as ghost shrimp and then slowly weaned to frozen food such as clam, shrimp, and squid. This species is very delicate and should only be purchased by experienced aquarists.

Apteronotus albifrons Black Ghost Knife – Medium $19.99 Black Ghost Knifefish are very unique and interesting fish. Knifefish have the ability to produce a weak electrical current that they use for navigation and hunting. These fish are black in color, and have an anal fin that extends almost the entire length of the body. The tail is small and thin, and there is no dorsal fin. As their name suggests, knife fish are knife-shaped. They are slow, graceful swimmers. Choose tankmates that are not nippy or inclined to chase the fish as it will not ba able to swim quickly enough to get away. Even though they are peaceful fish it is not recommended that you keep them with smaller fish, as the knife will sometimes harass them. Be sure to provide a cave or tube that allows the knife to hide. They are secretive fish and will become stressed if unable to find a secure hiding place. They are sensitive to poor water quality, and so require execellent filtration and regular aquarium maintenance.
